Transcribe For Us
Frequently asked questions from our transcriptionists related to payment, qualifications and workload.
Do I need to own or buy anything to complete transcription work?Yes. We expect all of our transcriptionists to own transcription software and we highly recommend that they use a foot pedal. Many of our existing transcriptionists use Express Scribe and a variety of transcription foot pedals available for purchase online.
How long will I have to wait for my work to be reviewed? On average, it takes about one to three business days for your work to be reviewed and either approved or rejected.
What type of audio data will I be transcribing?Depending on which project you choose to work on, you may end up transcribing conference calls, sermons, dissertations, business meetings or podcasts, among many other audio recordings.
Do I have to complete a certain amount of work each day?No. You have the option to work as much or as little as you want every day. We don’t require our transcriptionists to fulfill a quota, but we do expect them to meet deadlines and to be available for rush assignments, if necessary.
How much work can I complete each day?You can complete as much work as you prefer in any given day. We put no cap on daily or weekly earnings for our transcriptionists.
On average, how long is each transcription file and task? The lengths of our files range from a few minutes to several hours. How long each file takes to transcribe will depend on the individual.
How is the quality of my work determined?Seasoned editors review each incoming transcription and provide feedback so you can continue to grow as a transcriber. You must meet all requirements in our Transcription Style Guide each time you submit work. Failure to do so may result in a rejection.
Can I work from anywhere in the world?Currently, we only allow US-based workers to complete transcription work for us.
How much work is available for me to choose from?We have a consistent pipeline of incoming orders to keep you busy, so you’ll always have work to choose from.
Do you offer transcription work in any other languages than English?Currently, we only offer transcription work in English.
How am I paid for my transcription work?We issue secure payments via PayPal every day. All work, that has been approved, will be reflected in the upcoming payment.
How much am I paid for transcribing audio?Currently, we pay our transcriptionists based on the task they perform. This means our pay rates may vary from project to project. The payment for each transcription task is calculated based on several variables, including turnaround time and task complexity, as well as the required accuracy.
Will my pay rate change depending on the quality of my work?At Transcribe, we pay transcriptionists the full, listed amount for acceptable work and do not pay anything for unacceptable work. All requirements and expectations are listed in task-specific instructions, the Transcription Style Guide or communications from project managers.
Do I need a PayPal account?Yes. You must have a PayPal account to work for us and get paid. Please, keep in mind that you need to have a PayPal account before you log in to WorkStation for the first time.
How do I set up a PayPal account? You’ll need an email address and bank account to set up a PayPal account. Follow PayPal’s very simple onboarding process to create your account before you log in to WorkStation for the first time.
How can I transfer money from my PayPal account to my bank account? You can transfer money from your PayPal account to your bank account with a few clicks of the mouse.
Questions About Earning a Transcription Qualification
What do I need to know before I take the assessment? Before you take the Transcription Assessment, you should carefully study our Transcription Style Guide. You also need to own and know how to use transcription software, such as Express Scribe, and a transcription foot pedal.
Can I retake the assessment test if I fail?Currently, you have three chances to pass the Transcription assessment. These retake attempts apply to the prerequisite grammar test as well. So, if you fail the grammar test once and then fail our Transcription assessment twice, you will be out of retake attempts.
What if I disagree with the grade I received on my assessment?Currently, we do not have a formal process for appealing reviewer decisions at Transcribe. If you believe a reviewer has incorrectly rejected your assessment, you can contact our support staff at firstname.lastname@example.org.
WorkStation QuestionsWorkStation is a custom application built and managed by Transcribe’s parent company, OneSpace. It’s where freelancers find and complete work, check feedback and monitor upcoming payments. It’s also where editors and project managers monitor quality and project progress. You’ll use this platform to take and submit work.
How do I sign up on WorkStation? You can sign up for WorkStation on our open signup page: https://work.onespace.com/signup
When should I expect my WorkStation invite email?Within one to two days after you receive the email notifying you that you’ve passed the assessment, keep your eyes peeled for an email from email@example.com inviting you to log in to WorkStation for the first time.
You must use the link in that email to log in to WorkStation the very first time. After that, you can log in normally by clicking the PayPal button on work.onespace.com.
How do I find transcription work once I am on WorkStation?Once you’ve logged into WorkStation, you can find transcription work by typing “transcribe” in the search box at the top right corner of the page, or find “Transcription” in the Available Tasks section at the top left.
